- Set Up a Schedule – the first way to make sure you get the most life out of your CNC machine is to set up a maintenance and care schedule and stick to it. Creating a master schedule that all your employees and those that use the CNC machine can see is just one way to make sure employees know you are serious about preventative care and that you are paying attention to when the machine is serviced, cleaned, and cared for. If you have an employee that you trust, assign them the task of completing care so that you can be sure it is completed on time and that your CNC machine is well cared for.
- Train Employees- there is nothing that is more dangerous to a piece of expensive machinery than employees that are not properly trained on how to use and take care of it. Make sure you conduct training that tells each and every employee how to work with the machine, what common practices are acceptable and which are not, and a basic tutorial on what to do if something should go wrong. Simple things like using the proper lubricant or replacing the fill cap can mean the difference between a machine that lasts for ten years and one that breaks down every few months.
- Keep Basic Parts on Hand- the basic parts to keep one of these machines going are not incredibly expensive and as such it is not outside of the realm of reality to keep them on hand. Keep part that frequently go out like batteries and filters on hand so that you can perform spot maintenance as needed.
